Dr. Andrea Bliss is a registered psychologist who specializes in the treatment of selective mutism and other types of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and related disorders in children and youth. She provides evidence-based assessment and treatment both in private practice as well as in the OCD Program of the Mood, Anxiety, and Psychosis Service (MAPS) at Alberta Children’s Hospital. She previously practiced in the Pediatric OCD Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital. Her primary approach to treatment is using cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), a treatment shown by research to be effective in treating anxiety. In her work, she provides children and youth skills for facing fears one-step-at-a-time in order to get back to daily activities. Parents and teachers also play a large role in treatment and are provided strategies to support children at home and at school.
